Description
The National Youth Resilience Initiative’s Youth Ambassador Network (YAN) is an innovative and relevant approach to build youth capacity, nurture emerging leaders and enhance resilience within the context of the NYRI pathways approach. The YAN, pathway 1, enables leadership aspirations to come to life by cultivating competencies and creating platforms to amplify the youth voice. The Training & Support Plan fuses elements of leadership training and peer-learning exchanges into a unique curriculum that capacitates 100 youth [two generations of ambassadors at 50 ambassadors per year/cohort] to impact on, and elevate as ambassadors and youth participation in the development agenda of South Africa.
The NYRI Youth Ambassador Network representative of South Africa’s diversity across 9 provinces is comprised of aspirational young leaders between 18 - 35 years of age and we have selected 50 motivated young people who stood out of 342 applications. This group was officially onboarded on the 15th of April 2021 as our first cohort of ambassadors who have committed to being change actors and multipliers for resilience.
The Deputy Minister officially welcomed the group whilst endorsing and standing behind the initiative with the strong support of government namely from the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.
