The Dimensions of Safety in Precinct Management and Development Guide aims to provide practical insights into how doing things a little differently can lead to urban safety at a precinct level.

The guide is designed to support the integration of dimensions of safety into precinct management and development. Safety provides a useful lens for strengthening precinct management and development because it is reliant on systemic thinking and integrated action. It is often the integration of a number of transversal mandates which provides the greatest challenge to any sort of systemic change. Collaboration and integration are difficult, particularly across government departments and tiers, as well as between government, the private sector and civil society. Safety can therefore act as a lever that can enable more sustainable transformation in precinct management and development, responding to some of the barriers and challenges inherent to precinct management and development, which at first seem to be unrelated to safety.
