Building safer neighbourhoods - How violence and crime undermine safety and resilience

Description

This animation is part 1 of a 3 part series that unpacks the importance of Violence Prevention Initiatives - or VPI - when promoting safety and resilience in South Africa. The animation (4:50 minutes)  can be used to raise awareness and facilitate dialogue.
The animation describes the context of violence in South Africa and how the COVID-19 pandemic has strained already fragile systems and exacerbated risk factors to violence and crime. It introduces the socio-ecological model as a useful tool to analyse risk and protective factors and explains how violence prevention interventions can be used to build collective resilience and stem many of the risk factors that underpin violence.
