Description

The Department of Community Safety aims to increase safety for all the people in the Province by improving safety through effective oversight of policing, making safety everyone’s responsibility and optimising safety and security risk management.

The department’s work is underpinned by, amongst others, the Western Cape Community Safety Act (3 of 2013), and further rooted in Provincial Strategic Objective 5 (PSO5) “Increasing Safety”  -which aims to make every community in the province a safe place in which to live, work, learn, relax and move about.

The department delivers the following broad range of services:

Increases safety in communities by improving the performance of policing through effective oversight

Makes safety everyone's responsibility by means of building partnerships and creating forums for promoting active citizenship in the field of community safety

Elevates security measures to minimise security breaches in respect of theft and unauthorised access to Western Cape Government buildings
