Usiko Stellenbosch provides support, guidance and rites of passage rituals that help young people who have experience personal or social problems to change their lives. Usiko’s work targets children of impoverished farm workers and adolescents from townships and remote rural settlements and young offenders referred by the court system. As well as Jamestown, Usiko’s work benefits the communities of Khayamandi, Lynedoch, Devon Valley, Cloetesville, Idas Valley, Beaufort West and the Northern Cape Communities of Brandvlei, Karkahms and Carnarvron.
The organisation addresses youth challenges through the following accredited programmes: school-based prevention, after school clubs, crime prevention and diversion, and sustainable livelihoods. Staff are supported by voluntary community-based mentors, ensuring the continuation of a legacy as an authentic grassroots organisation providing solutions by the community for the community.
