Background
Nike started of as Blue Ribbon Sports at the University of Oregon in 1964. Philip Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman distributed Japanese Onitsuka Tiger shoes. The first location for the company was set in Santa Monica at the year 1966. The relationship between Blue ribbon Sports and Onitsuka Tiger ended in 1971, and the company decided to launch its own line called "Nike" The company went public in the 1980's and Nike successfully profitted 50% of the market share in the United States. Wieden+Kennedy (The advertising department) made one of the most famous phrases in the history of marketing in 1988. "Just Do It" was named one of the top 5 slogans of all time in an 1999 article.
Nike is committed to supporting projects that create access to sport and physical activity opportunities for kids.
