MatrixMen was established 11 years ago by a survivor of sexual abuse. It has for the last 11 years worked tirelessly, with minimal resources, to raise awareness about the plight of male survivors in South Africa.
MatrixMen is an organization that raises awareness about the effects of sexual abuse on men. We actively promote the establishment of facilities to support men and spend a large portion of our time chatting to media about the pain that endures as a result of this abuse.
It is a little known fact that more boys suffer sexual abuse in South Africa than girls, yet there are very few resources dedicated to the support of boys. At MatrixMen, we strive to level the playing field, not through attacking one gender, but through education and scientific research. There have been two studies to date that verify that more boys are victims of sexual abuse.
The education of psychologists and psychiatrists is essential as many are treating men that have been victims and don’t even know it. There is a fair chance that 60% of your male patients have been victims in some way in their lives. It is incumbent on these healers to be aware of this and provide the best possible treatment for their patients.
We are determined to set up support groups around South Africa and work hand in hand with therapists to provide the best possible support for male victims of sexual abuse.
We have online resources and programs on our Blog http://matrixmensa.blogspot.co.za/ on our Facebook page and on our website. As time passes, we will be posting more resources for parents, teachers and youth focused organisations.
