Description
Makukhanye (''Let be the light'') Art Room, is an award winning Shack Theatre that is based in Khayelitsha, one of the biggest townships in South Africa. The Art Room was established in 2007 in response to the scarcity of rehearsal and performance spaces in townships. This art room provides a space where 1000s of Black artists and others of colour, can gather together to practice their art and heal their communities.
Makukhanye Art Room is run by Theatre4Change Arts Project led by Mandisi Sindo (UCT) with Zanele Azuza Radu (UCT/Wits), Mbulelo Grootboom (UCT), Khayalethu Anthony (Nata) and Asanda Rilityana (Magnet Theatre). The Organisation works with and for Black Artists to venture into the so called MAINSTREAM.
The Art Room is in Khayelitsha, Site B, SA 360, Ntandazo Crescent, opposite Khayelitsha Stadium, behind the City of Cape Town Market Stalls, right opposite Ndabazabantu Cash Store. On your right is the HUUUUGE! SHACK.
