First Community Resource Centre

First Community Resource Centre – Organisation

Description

The First Community Resource Centre is an independent non-profit organisation. The organisation has been established in Hanover Park, one of the outlying districts of Cape Town. Our hours of operation are from Mondays to Thursdays between 9am and 5pm, and on Fridays between 9am and 3:00pm, with 20 staff members organising and handling daily activities.

We use funds, donations or equipment received from organisations and independent donors to support our mission to be of value to the Community of Hanover Park. Our overall goals for establishing this centre was to address a social skills deficit that is common in our society and to teach our youth important skills that will empower them to manage themselves without having to revert to the usual paths of gangsterism or drug abuse.

This FCRC was started with the intention of poverty alleviation and with the objective of providing counselling targeted at members of the community, youth influenced by gangsterism and drugs as well as abused and neglected children.

We don’t want to be seen as a quick solution to some of the problems in our community, but as a means to a greater end, that is, serving as an elevating influence to encourage people to also uplift and develop themselves.
