Monica Clarke – Practitioners

My motivation to join SaferSpaces:

I am the founder of www.IProtectMeSouthAfrica.org which trains Prevention Workers and Peer Trainers to teach the life skill of Resilience (Standing up for Yourself) and Self-Defence to children in schools (all ages).

I am passionate about protecting children against abuse.

I believe that children should be empowered to protect themselves by being leaders in their own protection.

I believe in building civil society as a foundation for a new South Africa. Please let's join hands to achieve this! We actively seek partnerships!

I'm working in these sectors:
Civil society and community based organisations, Community
I'm specialising in these topics:
Bullying, Children, Prevention concepts, Sexual violence, Violence in Schools and Educational Institutions
Expertise

Our organisation trains sexual violence PREVENTION WORKERS (adult parents, guardians, volunteers) and PEER TRAINERS (learners aged 16+) to go into schools to teach learners of all ages (Grades R-12) how to protect themselves against sexual violence. This is delivered as a Life Skill and includes Resilience (standing up for yourself) and self-defence, collaborating with Life Skills Teachers, in-school or after-school.

OUR VISION is that such training be imbedded into Life Skills/Orientation in each classroom, in all schools in South Africa (public, independent, private).

OUR AIM is to empower all 12.6 million children how to protect themselves against abuse.

Training

I have been working with youth groups for many decades and have done training with www.WijsWeerbaar.nl which is our partner organisation in the Netherlands. They teach self-defence in schools to children, teachers and social workers
