Melanie Lue Dugmore – Practitioners

My motivation to join SaferSpaces:

Melanie has been involved in criminal justice reform and research and policy development in the field of community safety, crime and violence prevention for over 25 years. Melanie was part of the drafting team for both the 1998 and 2016 White Papers on Safety and Security. She holds a BA LLB from the University of Kwa Zulu Natal.

Melanie has worked in transitional justice structures such as the Transitional Executive Council (1993), Investigation Task Unit (Kwa Zulu Natal Hit Squads) the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and  the South Africa Human Rights Commission. She has held positions in local government, civil society and the donor sector. She currently works as an independent consultant. 

Melanie has worked on projects focsusing on East Africa, Uganda, Namibia, Lesotho, Ghana and across South Africa. She is based in Cape Town.
