My motivation to join SaferSpaces:
IkamvaYouth is a non-profit organisation that offers after-school tutoring for high-school learners in townships. We currently operate in 5 provinces, with 16 branches.
Our branches are typically attached to public facilities, such as libraries, community centres and schools. We have had break-ins at our branches and there are safety concerns for our learners travelling between their schools/ homes and branches.
In the Western Cape we are building relationships with Community Safety bodies and neighbourhood watch. One of the solutions is to involve parents in assisting with accompanying learners to and from branches and having safety in numbers.
