Chandre Gould – Practitioners

My motivation to join SaferSpaces:

Since 2006 my work has focused on violence prevention and criminal justice in South Africa.  In 2008 I became involved in starting and supporting a community-based violenceprevention organisation in Touwsranten (Western Cape), the Seven Passes Initiative. The Seven Passes Initiative works with children, teachers and parents to improve attachment to schooling and address risk factors for violence.

In 2009 I edited a book on the criminal justice system in South Africa: Criminal (In)Justice: A civil society perspective. My current work includes research with Dr Catherine Ward of the University of Cape Town on the role of parenting in reducing child maltreatment and aggression. I also edit the journal, South African Crime Quarterly. It is thus very important for me to keep in touch with colleagues and organisations working on similar issues, and to shre information, experience and insights.

I'm working in these sectors:
NGOs/CBOs, Research / Academia
I'm specialising in these topics:
Crime & safety statistics, Family / Parenting, Gender-based violence, Gangs and gun violence, Masculinity, Prevention concepts, Safety planning
