My motivation to join SaferSpaces:

Shukumisa is a coalition of over 70 organisations across South Africa working against sexual violence. Shukumisa's mission is to ensure that South Africa takes the problem of sexual violence seriously, as evidenced by well crafted, well implemented legislation derived from broad-based public participation processes.

Shukumisa emerged from the National Working Group on Sexual Ofences (NWGOS) in 2008 to monitor the implementation of the Sexual Offences Act.

I'm working in these sectors:
Civil society and community based organisations
I'm specialising in these topics:
Sexual violence
Expertise

The Shukumisa Coalition is made up of NGOs, community-based organisations, research institutions and legal services. Our members work with adults, children, people with disabilities, sex workers and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and intersex community and other key populations.

The coalition is well positioned to provide an overview of who is providing which services across South Africa. Members provide various services and expertise, ranging from counselling and shelter, to legal assistance, awareness, training and research relevant to violence and crime prevention.
